1. How did you start out?

When I was 15 years old I discovered the world of youtube.

In particular makeup tutorials!

I was hooked to say the least.

I would practice all sorts of looks all the time.

My interest in different makeup looks and makeup products grew vastly.

I often wondered what a career in the industry would be like, but kept shoving the idea to the back of my head thinking it was a bit unrealistic.

I planned on going on to finish my leaving cert and continuing on to get a degree in business or to become a teacher.

However the more I thought about it I knew makeup was where my passion was. I felt as though I was going to college to prove something to someone, even though it wasn't true thats just how I felt.

It just wasn't for me in the end.

I spent about 6 years on and off making youtube makeup tutorials and then deleting them and re-uploading them when people at school found them.

I've always wanted to be a successful youtube makeup artist, teaching people actual techniques from an educated perspective, but I had to get a makeup education first & nowadays its all about the time to do so!

One day...Watch this space.

I finished my leaving cert, enrolled in a private makeup college in Dublin City Centre and studied there for a year. Here I knew I had made the best choice regarding college.

It never felt like hard work.

It came naturally and I felt my creativity flow daily.

One month into college I took a huge jump and handed my C.V. into Inglot Dundrum looking for some Christmas work.

They tend to need extra staff around November! (I needed to fund my addiction to makeup & my college fees somehow lol) I had just finished working crap local jobs and decided I had nothing to lose.

Off I went glammed up to the nine's and armed with my C.V. - I approached the manager of the store who asked me to call back in 10 minutes for an INTERVIEW! WHAT? ME? OMG!

I pondered around the shopping centre for 10 minutes freaking out, and then went back and had such a good interview with both the assistant and the store manager.

The next day I was offered the job. I was made up.

This really kick started my career in makeup.

I walked in an 18 year old girl with no professional knowledge and learned so much while working part time for Inglot while still attending college.

The team taught me a huge amount. My confidence grew!

In February when the shop had quietened down there weren't enough hours for all the Christmas staff to be kept on.

As I still had a tonne of college work to complete before my exams in May and I wasn't yet qualified I was let go.

At the time I was devastated but looking back now it made complete sense.

I then spent months studying and perfecting my portfolio in college to walk away with my Level 6 ITEC Dimploma in Fashion Theatre & Media Makeup.

Then I decided there was no time like the present to get a job in the industry. Again, armed with CV's I took to makeup counters.

I was always told a counter was a good place to start. You see lots of different skin types & skin tones come in so its great to have some variety.

I went to the likes of Mac, Urban Decay, Bare Minerals, Benefit and for the craic I said i'd give Inglot another one.

I wasn't expecting Inglot to blink twice at me considering I had a previous stint with them. HOWEVER...

I got a call when I had returned home from CV delivering to ask if I could return to the brand new 'Pro Store' on South Anne Street in town the following day for an interview.

The next day I got dolled up strutted into my interview & again smashed it.

I was again offered a Christmas position in the store.

BUZZED! I loved it again as much, if not more than I did the previous year. I got on so well that I was offered a full time position with the company and continued to love it and work hard with them for 2 years!

My time with the company came to an end about 8 weeks ago and now I'm a self employed freelance makeup artist!

I'm also trying to blog & youtube in my part time - however, I never expected to be as busy as I am now that I work for myself, which is obviously a good thing, but makes it hard to dedicate time to sit down to film/write.

I love snapchat though hehe.

2. What made you decide to be a makeup artist?

Youtube makeup artists for definite. They opened my eyes to the industry and inspired me. The likes of pixi woo sisters & Charlotte Tilbury! GOALS!

3. Tell us about the IBY Meetup.

The IBY Meetup or Irish Beauty Youtuber Meetup as its better known was amazing!

Its a big meet up arranged by my friend Dale from youtube 'Monstermakeupxx' & its specifically for Irish Beauty Youtubers.

I was invited last year to it when it was held in Cork, but sadly could not attend due to working at Inglot.

But this year I wasn't missing it for the world.

It was held in an amazing hotel in Dublin, and it took place in August.

A group of us met in the hotel and were treated like princesses for the whole day.

Dale got in touch with lots of beauty and PR companies to come along and tell us about their brand and products.

Thats exactly what happened we were told lots of informative information and introduced to lots of lovely people, companies and products.

We were lucky enough to receive some products from the generous companies.

I vlogged the whole thing on my youtube channel & I also hauled the goody bag if you want to have a nose lol.

Thanks again Dale.

4. Who is your inspiration?

Career wise; I adore Charlotte Tilbury, Samantha & Nicola (Pixi Woo), Chrisspy, Sssamantha (Batalash Beauty), Tanya Burr.

My boyfriend also pushes me when I need inspiration. He really helps me!

Life wise; My mam inspires me everyday, also my Nanny & Grandad & the rest of my family. Love those peeps.

5. Talk to us about your favourite brands right now.

Two words The Balm.

The Balm are killing it at the moment! I've tried a good few of their products recently and they are amazing.

I've recently invested into some No7 skincare that I am also obsessed with.

Some staple favourites are Inglot & Mac, I always restock my kit with a lot of their products. L'oreal for foundation also!

I also love Johnsons baby oil for a lot of things. I always have a backups of it along with Garnier micellar water!

6. What are your five go to products?

1. Garnier Micellar Water

2. Johnsons Baby Oil

3. Inglot Gel Liner in 77

4. Mac Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15

5. Inglot HD Powder in 43

7. What products are you using on a lot of your clients right now?

1. Nivea Moisturising Primer

2. L'oreal True Match Foundation

3. Mac Pro Longwear Concealer

4. Rimmel Pressed Powder

5. Nyx Matte Lipstick in Eurotrash

6. Mac MSF in Gold Deposit

8. Tell us about your beauty regimen?

I always use Garnier Micellar Water to remove my makeup first.

Then I go in with my No.7 Hot Cloth Cleanser to remove anything thats left.

I use a night cream from Lidl that retails at like 3 euro or otherwise I use coconut oil as an intense moisture boost.

In the morning when I wake up I again use my Micellar water.

Then I use my No.7 day cleanser on a cleansing brush from Forever 21.

I then use an eye cream from Lidl & a No.7 day cream.

I finish with whatever lip balm I'm using at the moment.

Nothing fancy and totally budget friendly!

9. Why youtube? Tell us how to be a successful vlogger.

Well I just fell in love with it as a platform in general.

It inspired me to start my career as a makeup artist and I just think its so cool to be able to watch 'celebrities' in a more personal way.

If I knew how to be successful I would have a way bigger following haha.

I guess consistency and good content are a good way to be successful and also be yourself I suppose!

10. Do you teach masterclasses?

I do. I used to teach masterclasses with Inglot all the time.

To colleges and to the public. I loved it, I got so passionate and into it. I would get nervous beforehand but it was almost adrenaline.

I've since held 2 masterclasses of my own.

The first was sponsored by a local pharmacy in association with NYX cosmetics & I loved it.

The second I held as 'Tanya-Rachel Makeup' my first masterclass as a self employed makeup artist. It was again a huge success and Ive had so many local people ask me to hold another one ASAP!

So I will definitely keep it going every few months!

11. If so, tell us how to get involved, e.g. how much, what they entail and how to book?

The first place I will always announce a masterclass is on my Facebook page 'Tanya-Rachel Makeup' and I always post up a detailed amount of information on what look I will be doing, the location etc.

Prices may vary, the last one I held cost 25 euro, was 3 hours long, involved two looks, heaps of Prosecco, tonnes of chocolates & 5 euro off vouchers for returning customers.

I love holding them. The response is always brilliant!

13. What was on your beauty Christmas list this year?

OMGGGG everything! Santa kept his beady eye on all the Christmas sets & palettes!

I love it all. Some Mac holiday pigments. They're always fab!

14. Give us a product review of a recent beauty item you've used.

I recently tried the No7 cleansing oil.

I tried my friends after a night out, and then went in store to get a sample.

Its fab!

It melts away all your makeup instantly.

It leaves your skin so soft too.

It's handy for night time as a quick and soft way to remove your makeup, but I would do a proper cleanse the next morning.

Its really nicely priced too and at the moment is on 3 for 2 in boots.

Its a new fave, I'm spoiled for choice between my micellar water and this oil. Two totally different cleansers but the No7 one is just a different concept to the water.

15. What is your go-to brand?MAC,INGLOT what and why?

They're both my go to brands.

I love Inglot as it is more affordable and is still unreal quality.

After working for them for a combined total of like 2 and a half years I am so familiar with they're products so that helps.

I love Mac also but as a sort of 'treat'.

I adore NYX Matte lipsticks, Essence lip liners, Collection concealers. I love rimmel powders and l'oreal foundations too as drugstore must haves.

Then higher end Mac concealer, lip liners, lipsticks, foundations & powders as more of a higher end treat.

16. What do you hoard as a makeup artist? Foundations, eye primers, lip liners?

Oh my goodness, you should see how many bottles of foundation I own.

Different shades, textures, brands. Millions.

Also lip products.

I feel like I'm alway picking up these two things.

I like to have lots of variety when it comes to skin & lips.

Whereas I have my go to eye shadows and blushes that I love if that makes sense.

17. What new shades are you loving or looking forward to loving this winter / 16?

I'm going to be boring and say a good bold lip.

I think its classic, and will never not work at this time of year.

A good berry tone like 'Charlotte Tilbury Glaston Berry' 'Revlon Wine Not' 'Mac Diva' all these shades are my fave!

I also love a wing, some pale completion with a pink toned blush, little or no contour and killer whisky lashes!

18. Tell us about your product picks from your last trip? On your snapchat you showed us the MUA highlighter, etc?

Yeah thats right I was in Liverpool and hit super drug for some brands that aren't accessible to me.

My fave is the 'Makeup Revolution Radiance Pallette' its a palette with 3 different shades of highlighters and I love it.

They're so pigmented and it retailed at about 8 pound.

I picked up an MUA matte lipstick for 1 pound and hated it.

It was so chalky!

Since then I've been away to Galway and picked up the Cara Pharmacy 12 piece brush set which I completely love for 30 euro.

The brushes are great quality, they come in black or pink and are stored in a fabulous brush holder. Great value and quality all round!

19. Any up and coming projects or events you'd like to talk about?

At the moment I'm flat out and worked all Christmas really.

I have lots of appointments, three more weddings and general admin to do behind my business.

As far as I'm aware there aren't anymore events upcoming that I've been invited to attend, hopefully some might come in.

I've recently set up a new Blog and Youtube Channel to begin working hard on in January when my business quietens down a bit.

I want to give them both a lot of effort and hard work, alongside my other social platforms; Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram & Twitter.

Im going to make the time when my work pace slows down.

I want to brand out and expand my following.

Who knows maybe have my name in lights one day!

At the age of 21 I'm proud of everything I have achieved so far, but this is definitely just the beginning of 'Tanya-Rachel Makeup' and I have a feeling 2016 is going to be bigger and busier.

Dream big and work hard is 100% my motto and I will continue to live by it until I have SMASHED my goals!

That's all from Tanya and myself for now ladies and gentlemen! Stay tuned for the last two blog posts starring Lisa Sexton and Eva Haran!

Lots Of XOX's,

Kirstonified x
