Lisa Sexton - Interview
Lisa Sexton is a girl from my hometown who I also went to school with for a few years in Ennistymon who branched out at a young age and began modelling and hosting different events in the locality.
To say she is a stunning girl is an understatement! I really enjoyed reading her interview and am so super appreciative that she took the time out to put as much effort into it as she did.
I hope you all enjoy this blog post as much as I have!
When did you begin modelling?
When I was around 14/15 years old I entered Clare’s Model Search hosted by Martina Costello, the year the beautiful Madeline Mulqueen won.
I really enjoyed the event and knew I would love to get into the modelling industry unfortunately at the time I was too young to join Martina’s Agency.
I then went on and had my first fashion show about a year later in the Armada Hotel thanks to Orla Sexton.
She introduced me to catwalk and I really enjoyed it.
Why did you start?
I like trying new things so I was so lucky to get the opportunity to give it a go and I really enjoyed it, getting the make-up and hair done, getting to try on so much beautiful clothes and getting to feel important.
It really does boost your confidence and it gets rid of your fear of being on stage and having all eyes on you.
What are your favourite make up brands at the moment? Why?
I absolutely love make-up, what girl doesn’t!
My favourite brands at the moment are definitely ‘Sleek Make-up’ and ‘Rimmel’.
I noticed beauty blogger Marissa Carter featured the new sleek ‘I-Lust’ palette and seeing how good the colours actually were I had to buy it and try it out, I purchased this palette and two more similar including their new highlighting palette in ‘Mc Grotty’s Total Health Ennistymon’ and absolutely fell in love with them and at such a cheap price too you can’t go wrong! Same with Rimmel I began using their ‘wake me up’ foundation after seeing another beauty blogger Joanne Larby use it and I find for me it works and lasts on my skin so well.
Have you ever thought of becoming a makeup artist or fashion stylist? Or do you think you’re going to stick to modelling?
I would love to do some make-up artistry courses but just to learn more about it for myself, I definitely do not have a skill at doing make up or even with fashion, and I have my friends to thank for that lol!
Saying that if the opportunity did arise I would take it and be very grateful. I would love to take my modelling further and hopefully in the New Year I will make up a new modelling portfolio and meet with some agents.
What are you doing as of late?
As of late I just finished up working as a golf receptionist in Dromoland Castle, Golf & Country Club.
I absolutely love it down there, it was such a fun environment to work in and all the staff were so friendly and easy to get on with.
I am also doing a course in Clare Civil Defence one night a week for Radio Procedures, and in January I hope to go on with Civil Defence and begin an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course which will help me in the next few years in becoming a Paramedic.
Talk to us about your relationship with model Orla Sexton?
Orla is like a big sister to me and always has been, since I was a child she has always been around. I grew up watching Orla blossom, I remember when she won the title of Miss Trinity Rooms and went onto Miss Ireland and came in the final top 3.
I was so proud of her, to me she was like a celebrity. She was and is still so beautiful, she has such a glamorous style, and what makes her so special is she is an incredibly sweet and lovely person.
She always had me modelling for her in the fashion shows that she organised, she made me feel so important.
Who is your inspiration?
Without a doubt my inspirations is my mother Mary, she is such a hard-working, loving, friendly person and the people that know her would agree with me on that.
She always has a smile on her face and no matter what her mood is or what the circumstance is she will put you and your needs before her own. I always know when I have a problem no matter what it is I can trust and tell her and she will help me to the best she can.
What fashion bloggers do you follow?
I follow Sosueme, Joanne Larby, Marissa Carter, Pippa O Connor and Rosie Con. I love each of them as they are all so different from each other, they are all so beautiful, so successful and such good role models.
I find myself watching Joanne Larby’s snaps over and over, if I feel sad or down because I feel like I can relate to her like other girls and I’m so excited to purchase her new book ‘Fairy Tales’.
What are you’re 5 GO TO beauty items?
My ‘Nuxe’ multi-use dry oil gold shimmer,
Coco Brown 1 hour tan,
The famous Paw-Paw cream (which is brilliant for your lips especially in this cold weather),
Inglots eyebrow gel
My Rimmel ‘wake me up’ foundation
Give us an inspirational quote?
My favourite English Teacher once told me ‘can’t is a myth whose real name is wont’ and since then it’s a quote I find myself saying at least once a day.
What was on your fashion and beauty list this year for Christmas?
The Pippa Palette and the Instax Fuji film camera.
Why do you love modelling?
I love modelling because it’s a chance for you to just feel good about yourself and feel important.
Any advice to girls trying to break into that industry?
If it’s what you would like to do, go for it and don’t give up.
It can be knocking at times being told you’re not pretty enough or you’re not the ideal size and shape, don’t let it stop you. Take it with a pinch of salt and try somewhere else.
Where do you see yourself in the next ten years, where do you hope to be?
I really hope that I will have made it too Miss Ireland at some stage or maybe even the Rose of Tralee, I hope to have travelled around eastern Europe and America and who knows be even living there. I really hope that in 10 years’ time I will be a qualified Paramedic and be really happy in my career.
Any upcoming projects or events you want to talk about?
I had some exciting news I was told last week I was picked out from over 150 girls around Ireland that I made it into the top 30 in the Miss Universe Ireland Finals next weekend in Cork, but unfortunately I had to pull out as I have a charity event that night too in Ennis for the Clare Crusaders White Collar Boxing night as their Ring Girl, as they asked me a few months back I couldn’t let them down last minute and I would feel horrible letting down a local charity.
