How did you start out?

It all started when I finished secondary school in 2011. I went straight to Galway Technical Institute and studied Beauty Therapy for 2 years. It was throughout those years that I found my niche for make up.

What made you decide to be a make up artist?

When we got our first lesson in make up in college, it was hilarious how bad I was. At the time, I would have considered myself pretty good at doing my own make up (bare in mind this was when eyebrows didn’t exist and contouring was unheard of), so I subconsciously thought I would be good at doing other people’s make up. How wrong I was!! I was so hard on myself because I was so bad at it, that it it took a few months for me to get over it.

Months later, my sister and her friends ended up having loads of nights out.

It just so happened that I was there and they would have loved to have gotten their make up done; one thing lead to another and I was constantly doing make ups throught those few months. I ended up finding my feet and really started to enjoy it.

So once I had taken some photos, I decided to set up a FB page and the rest is history!

Who is your inspiration?

Too many!!!

The amount I stalk on Instagram is shameful.

If I had to choose just one, it would be the P Louise girls in Manchester.

I have been following Paige for years, and when she decided to set up her own make up academy I travelled over to her in April 2015.

Their make up is a whole different league, and I just adore the girls. It was the best training I ever undertook in make up.

Talk to us about your fave products brands right now

I love Inglots under make up base primer, and Fushcia’s mineral foundation. Inglots primer is so smooth on the skin, and because I sometimes find client’s skin can be very dehydrated at times, this prevents any blotchiness on the skin when applying foundation.

Fuschia’s mineral foundation is something I adore when I do make the effort and put a face on at work!! Its so glowy and light, its perfect for every day wear.

Its also fab over your favourite foundation to add extra coverage and dewyiness.

What are your five go to products

  1. Anastaisia Beverely Hills Dipbrow Pomade in ‘chocolate’ for the brows

  2. Fuschia ‘Photo Touch’ foundation in tender beige

  3. Fuschia Mineral Foundation in fawn

  4. Amazing Shine lashes in #43

  5. MAC lipstick in ‘Kinda Sexy’

What products are you using on a lot of your clients right now?

  • Inglot Under Make Up Base primer

  • Estee Laudeer Double Wear foundation,

  • Inglot HD foundation,

  • Inglot Sparkling Dust,

  • The Pippa Palette

Tell us about your beauty regimen

Once a day when I’m not wearing make up, and twice a day when I am wearing make up :

  • Clense using Dermalogica skin clearing wash,

  • Tone using Dermalogica multi active toner,

  • Exfoliate every time using Dermalogica daily microfoliant,

  • And moisturise using Dermalogica active moist

What lipstick shades are in for winter/16 any favorites?

Its the same ever year, deep plums, deep reds. I personally love MACs ‘Diva’

To now be expanding like you are with all your clientele and working alongside your sister who also has a popular following, do you see any big future projects together?

Myself and my sister will always have projects together such as photoshoots, events, etc, but come January I will be leaving the nest at Mimis and creating my own.

Any tips for aspiring makeup artists

Practice, practice, practice.

Spending all the money in the world on courses won’t make you any better than you were yesterday. You can only improve by picking up a brush and doing as many different make ups on as many different faces as you can! And don’t be afraid of colour.

So you now teach master classes, tells us about them. How much is it, what it entails, how girls will benefit and how to book

The masterclasses I teach usually go on for about 2 hours.

They are roughly 35 and the price can always changed depending on location, etc.

It would involve me demonstrating a look on a model, and talking those watching through it step by step.

Girls would benefit because they would see how I do a make up and little tips, tricks that they may not have seen before. You can book by contacting me on 087291430, or via FB

What’s on your beauty Christmas list this year?

A new paw palette with my name on it!!

Give us a product review of a recent beauty item you’ve used.

I tried out Wow Brown’s DIY self tan 2 weeks ago.

It was the nicest smelling tan that I have ever tried!

I applied 3 layers, and it was the dark version. It was so natural and fresh looking, its perfect for anyone wanting a tan but doesn’t want to be very dark

What is your go-to brand? MAC, INLGOT what and why?

I don’t believe in having a go to brand.

Not everthing in every brand will be good, and thats just the way it is.

I am obsessed with Inglots gel liner #77, but I’m not a fan of there mascara.

So I love different products from every brand!

What do you hoard as a makeup artist? Foundations, eye primers, lip liners?

Brushes. I can’t seem to have enough yet I don’t use half of them!!

Any up and coming projects or events you’d like to talk about?

I’m opening up my own Beauty Salon in January 2016 (Aoife Garrihy Beauty), so at the moment my life is revolving around that.

I’ll be offering treatments such as make up, nails, semi perm eyelashes, spray tans, waxing, specialised waxing, hd brows, facials, etc.

Any recent events you’ve done that you would like to talk about?

I haven’t undergone any events lately as everything I’m doing at the moment is for my new salon.

I am however supporting the KUBE for Ennistymon GAA on 21st November this year, so I’m delighted to be a part of that.

When traveling what items can you NOT leave the house without, whether you’re going abroad, down the road to the girls or up to an event.

  • Anastaisa Beverely Hills dipbrow pomade in ‘chocolate’,

  • Fuschia photo touch foundation in ‘tender beige’,

  • Fuschia mineral foundation in ‘fawn’,

  • MACs lipstick in ‘kinda sexy’. Its always the same!

I want to take the time out again to thank Aoife for doing this interview with such a hectic few months ahead of her!
